Regional Indigenous
Plant Nursery

Welcome to the Redberry Lake Biosphere Region's Indigenous Plant Nursery located in Hafford, Saskatchewan! Our goal is to build capacity, create a successful indigenous plant nursery, and to support and manage tree planting and environmental restoration projects in the Redberry Lake Biosphere Region.

Our Nusery's FAQ:

Where We Are Planting?

We will plant trees and conduct restoration projects at the request of interested private landowners, municipalities, First Nations and conservation organizations. Our primary planting efforts will be within the boundaries of the Redberry Lake Biosphere Region.

What Types of Trees?

We plant many types of Indigenous trees, native to the Redberry Lake region. Trembling Aspen, Balsam Poplar, White spruce, Paper Birch and even Burr Oak to name a few. In the future we will also be planting many types of Shrubs, Perennials and Grasses as well.

How Many Trees?

The RLBR plans to plant up to 100,000 trees per planting season.

Can I Have Trees Planted On My Land?

Yes, any type of landholder or manager in the Biosphere Region can request to participate in a RLBR “Roots of Renewal” planting project. Currently you can join our waiting list to participate in future tree planting projects.

Why Should You Plant Trees?

Capture carbon in growing trees to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and help in the fight against climate change Enhance biodiversity and forest resilience to climate change by planting the right tree species in the right places and restoring wildlife habitat Support human well-being by creating more sanctuaries for recreational activities and connecting with nature, improved mental well-being and reduced risk of wildland fire and floods to our communities.

Can I Buy Trees or Plants at Your Nursery?

We are currently focusing on large scale planting projects but we plan to offer plant sales in 2025.

To build democratic processes in decision-making for actions that affect the community and region.

Preserve the right to meaningful and direct participation in decision-making processes of our choice without influence from outside agencies.

Biodiversity &Conservation

To maintain a healthy environment with clean water, clean air and a thriving diversity of native species.

To continue to restore degraded soils and waters, as they are of ecological significance and needed for survival.
